Bill Wise American Saddlebred Sweepstakes

2025 Update 

The Bill Wise Sweepstakes Program, jointly with the American Saddlebred Horse and Breeders Association (ASHBA), announces the transition of the Bill Wise American Saddlebred Sweepstakes Program from ASHBA to the Equine Sports Council Foundation administration. This decision fulfills a personal request from the late Bill Wise, who was the driving force behind establishing the Bill Wise American Saddlebred Sweepstakes Program nearly 50 years ago.

The Sweepstakes Program expresses its appreciation to the American Saddlebred Horse and Breeders Association (ASHBA) for its assistance with the program for more than 40 years. The program has awarded more than $6,500,000 in prize money and has been instrumental in promoting the breeding and development of young Saddlebreds across the country.

“Bill was a true leader and visionary for the American Saddlebred industry,” said James Nichols, Chair of the Bill Wise Sweepstakes. “Prior to his passing, Mr. Wise personally asked me to carry his program forward in looking to the future of the American Saddlebred and the Sweepstakes Program.”

“This is more than a transfer—it’s a tribute,” said ASHBA President Smith Lilly. “We are grateful to have worked with Bill and been stewards of this program and wish the Sweepstakes Program every success as they move into a new chapter.”

The Sweepstakes Program and ASHBA extend their sincere gratitude to the nominators, owners, trainers, and supporters who have participated in the Bill Wise American Saddlebred Sweepstakes throughout the years. The program’s success reflects the strength and spirit of the American Saddlebred community and the enduring vision of its founder. ASHBA offers our best wishes to the Sweepstakes Program and to all who will continue to participate in the program.
