American Saddlebred Museum Annual Meeting

  

LEXINGTON, KY – January 11, 2022---On January 6, 2022 the American Saddlebred Museum held its Annual Meeting at the UPHA Conference in Orlando, Florida.  There were over 30 attendees to the meeting both in-person and via Zoom.  Board of Trustees President, Mark Strong led the meeting.  

Treasurer’s report from Mary Jane Kirkpatrick who reported that the ASM’s operating expenses were flat last year, due to the receipt of PPE Loans and their being forgiven.  The gift shop reported the best November to date and thanks to all for supporting! 

Mark Strong reported that Covid was difficult for the Museum but staff worked behind the scenes to ensure 2022 will be a strong year.  For example, the History Wing renovation was delayed, the expected completion is now March 2022.  Once open, the facility can be used for weddings, corporate rentals, etc.  The grand reopening will coincide with a My-My exhibit in spring 2022. The Museum received multiple exciting grants in 2021 including, a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services for a Librarian to inventory the Museum’s Library collection, a Preservation Needs Assessment grant to look at our collection and a grant from the Junior League of Lexington for trophy preservation materials.  Even though 2021 was a challenge, the ASM has emerged strong and is ready to fulfill its mission of preserving and promoting the history of the American Saddlebred. 

Executive Director Jennifer Foster said even though it was a tough year, the Museum is moving into a much more positive position, our renovation is nearing completion, the museum board and staff are working together wonderfully, we have increased visitation, and expect a great 2022.  

Nominating Committee chair Ann Curl introduced three new Trustees, Angela Mirabole, Carolyn Melka and Diane Nyhammer. Dr. Gary Crump was elected from the membership to serve on the 2022 Nominating Committee for Trustees. Mark Strong thanked the outgoing Trustees, Cindy Carcione for 6 years of service, Kate Codeanne for three years of service and Diane Sembler-Kamins.  He thanked Candi Aversenti and Keith Kurz for continuing service on the Board as Members at Large.   

 The Museum thanks all of the members and supporters throughout the year.
