ASHBA Board Spotlight Q & A with Rachel Seifert

Name – Rachel Seifert

Location – Versailles, Kentucky

How did you get started with the American Saddlebred? I grew up with Morgans and switched to Saddlebreds after completing my education – it looked a lot fancier and I wanted to ride and show a horse that racked!

What is your involvement with the American Saddlebred currently? I continue to ride and show (for the last 4 years at Visser Stables) as well as buy prospects and sell finished show horses.  I had occasionally bred the mare who didn’t work out as a show horse, but got more involved in breeding when I purchased Doctor Dobro MS in 2016. 

Why are you passionate about serving on the ASHBA board? I first became involved with board committees when I was concerned about rule changes without advance notice.  Since then, I’ve served on several committees and task forces and really hope to work towards rules and processes that benefit our mission to serve the breed – and get away from things that don’t serve a valid purpose in the 21st century.

What other industry boards &/or committees have you served before? None.

What is your vision for bettering the breed through serving on the ASHBA board? Upholding the “integrity” aspects of our mission and expanding the recognized need for our horses to have outlets for their talents and attributes in activities and at venues besides the Kentucky State Fair!

What committees/councils/initiatives at the ASHBA will be or are you serving on as board member? Conduct Review Committee, Registry Rules Committee, and Bylaws Committee

What are the top three challenges you believe the ASHBA Board should be working on?  I think there is complete alignment with the Board (and I hope the membership!!!) that we need to continue to focus on the three “Ps” – Promote, Protect, and Preserve – and so far, everything I’ve seen us working on fits in one or more of these categories.  We have so much talent and high quality idea generation on the Board and the Committees  – sometimes it’s a challenge to prioritize!

What is one thing most people don’t know about you that you’d like to share?  I can cure hiccups (most of the time)!
