New Show Alert: Saugerties Summer Showcase

Coming to the New York show scene in 2021 is the new breed show of the Saugerties Summer Showcase. This will be a special event for Saddlebred, Morgan, and Hackney lovers! Come enjoy a beautiful weekend in a spectacular setting, where the Catskills meet the Hudson! Online entries being taken now at Horse Shows Online.

Co-chairs Keith Friday and Tuffy Owens announced several updates to the June 24-27 show, which will be a one-time event held at the famed HITS facility in Saugerties, New York. The show will host two $5,000 Battle of the Breeds classes, one for hunt seat and one for saddle seat horses.

The Hunt Seat Battle Of The Breeds will be held Friday evening and the Saddle Seat Battle Of The Breeds will be Saturday night. The classes will be judged at the walk (no flat walk required), trot, and canter. The prize money breakdown will be $2,500 to the winner, $1,500 to reserve, $500 to a random drawing from the entries, and $500 to the entry with the most enthusiastic crowd cheering section. The prize money will be split between the owner and the rider for each of the $5,000 Battle Of the Breeds.

A Freedman Saddle raffle is being held to raise the prize money for those two classes. One-hundred and twenty-five tickets will be sold at $100 each with all of the funds going for that prize money. Tickets can be purchased by going online at ampshowservices.com/Saugerties/php and go to the sponsorship section or contact Tuffy Owens (602) 579-3738. That site will also give you all show information, including the class schedule.

Additionally, on Friday night an In Hand Battle Of The Breeds will be held. “While it won’t have the great prize money of the other two Battle Of The Breeds, this class will be a great photo shoot opportunity, in addition to representing your breed,” said Owens. “It is scheduled for right about sunset with the mountains in the background. I’m anticipating the best of the three breeds being present.”

Nelson Green (ASB, Hackney, roadster) will officiate along with Phil Fountain (Morgan, equitation). There are also plans for lots of great hospitality. Stay tuned for more.
