Saddlebred Record (CH Prefix) Point System Clarified
In order to streamline and simplify the Saddlebred Record (CH prefix) program, the ASHBA Board of Directors has voted to make all points count retroactively. The Saddlebred Record program, which encompasses awards for horses competing at breed shows, equitation horses, sport horses and Half-Saddlebreds, helps identify successful breeding combinations and identify the outstanding performers of the show ring.
“We’ve had several updates to the Saddlebred Record program over the years, and at the time of the changes, some points were designated as retroactive, others were not,” said ASHBA Executive Director/CEO David Mount. “It was confusing for ASHBA members when they applied for their winning horse’s CH, only to learn that only some points did not count if they were earned before a certain date.”
The board agreed the move would make record-keeping simpler and more consistent across disciplines.
While database work is ongoing, members who believe their horse has enough points to earn the CH designation can apply. As long as wins can be verified, eligibility can be determined, Mount said.
