Two Saddlebreds Set to Compete at Historic Dressage at Devon Sept. 24-29, 2019
Two American Saddlebreds are on their way to the prestigious Dixon Oval at Devon to compete in the historic Dressage at Devon this week. Born To Rage (126945S) and Grande Americano(123632G)1 will be competing and representing the American Saddlebred breed at this celebrated USDF event.
Both of these entries will compete Tuesday morning in the Wheeler Ring Gold in the under saddle dressage suitability and in-hand breed division. Born to Rage will additionally be competing in the Four year old Materiale on Wednesday morning and has qualified to compete in the USDF Breeders Championship Series Four Year Old Materiale Championship in the Dixon Oval on Thursday afternoon. The Materiale division are held for young horses, and is meant to showcase prospects scored for their movement, potential as a dressage horse, and an overall general impression. The full schedule of divisions and ride times available on Dressage at Devon’s website.
As Born To Rage’s trainer and rider, Laura Jumpp, shares, “Born to Rage is one of the nicest horses I have ever had the pleasure of riding. He greets me ears up every day and loves to work. His ability to learn is incredible. What takes me weeks with a typical trainee he learns in a day or two. He has been blessed with clean gaits, tons of power, flexibility, and natural suspension- a dressage riders dream. He definitely stands out in a crowd and is a farm favorite.” Jump continues to support that our breed is full of characteristics that make them great prospects for the dressage discipline, “Saddlebreds are a perfect breed for dressage. They are intelligent, good movers, sensitive, light, forward, and great minded. Some Saddlebreds have made it to the top levels of the Dressage world. However, they are an uncommon sight compared to warmbloods and warmblood crosses who dominate the sport.”
For Jumpp, “It is such a big deal for Born to Rage to compete at Devon. Although there have been Saddlebreds there in the past competing in hand, none have competed in the USDF Materiale or Materiale Championship. Taking such a high quality young horse to show on the same stage as horses of more well-known dressage breeds is an important step towards showing the dressage world what so many of us already know: American Saddlebreds are an ultimate sport horse and can compete against the imports and other well-bred sport horses.”
Dressage at Devon is one of the longest-running dressage shows in the country. Dressage at Devon is a USDF Heritage Competition and hosts the Dressage Sport Horse Breeding Championships. All breeds come to compete both in hand and under saddle for their suitability to excel in dressage and as sport horses. Many of these classes run in conjunction with the breed organizations or registries. In the dressage world, competing at Devon is a lifetime milestone for many and one of the most respected dressage events across the country from the Mid-Atlantic. Riders from all over the United States and Canada come to compete in the upper level dressage competitions.
Each horses teams will be there with breed promotional material and hoping their presence there will introduce a new set of dressage riders to the fun of Saddlebreds!
