Dorinda D

These horses have been honored with a donation to the American Saddlebred Horse and Breeders Association towards the technology upgrade, which will enhance the ASHBA website and help support the advancement of our breed.

Dorinda D was given to my sisters and me as a weanling by our great uncle, Thomas (Buck) Menaugh of Harrodsburg, KY. She was a dream come true for four horse-crazy girls in Springfiled, Missouri! She was natural-gaited, but that little mare had a big trot, and once she was trained we all had fun showing her on the Southwest Missouri circuit. That was a time when you could go to a one-night show almost every summer weekend and always find several five-gaited classes to enter. We didn't win much, but we learned a lot!

Dorinda is long gone, but she had a profound impact on our lives. My youngest sister became a professional Arabian Trainer, and I have been an American Saddlebred breeder, as well as secretary of the ASHB Futurity of Missoui, for many years. More importantly, she brought the four of us -- separated by considerable age differences -- much closer than we otherwise would have been.
