Silent Spring

These horses have been honored with a donation to the American Saddlebred Horse and Breeders Association towards the technology upgrade, which will enhance the ASHBA website and help support the advancement of our breed.

Silent Spring was my ten and under equitation mare that we purchased during the Junior League horse show in 1986. She was a beautiful bay mare, and a real confidence builder for a somewhat timid ten year old girl. We showed together for the rest of the 1986 season, and practiced at Delovely together until she was sold in 1988. What I remember most about Spring is not the blue ribbons we won or the shows we went to, but the time we spent together at the barn.

She was the kindest, most gentle horse I’ve ever had the privilege to know. She loved to lay down in her stall to sleep, and could be found this way at pretty much anytime of the day. My favorite thing was to disappear into her stall and curl up with her as she lay resting, and we passed countless happy hours this way. I did manage to go flying over her head once during a particularly exciting ride, but being the sweet girl she was she was stopped and looking expectantly at me when I landed. I didn’t have Spring terribly long in the grand scheme of things, but she certainly left a lasting imprint on my heart.
