ASHA Adds Alexandra Harper to Our Team!

The ASHA is pleased to announce that Alexandra Harper has accepted the newly created role of Special Programs Manager.  This position will be responsible for sponsorships, special promotions, the growth of our Youth organization, enhancements for our Charter Clubs and special services pertaining to horse show management.  This is not an addition to staff but a realignment of roles as a result of a vacant position.  “I am excited about this new role and especially what Alexandra brings to our organization” said Terri Dolan, Executive Director of ASHA.

Alexandra Harper has over six years of expertise working for the esteemed University of Kentucky Ag Equine Programs, where she was responsible for all financial management, human resources, operations, and event coordination and logistics. In addition, Harper has been an avid American Saddlebred owner and exhibitor for 24 years.

During her time at the UK Ag Equine Programs, she managed the department budget, and orchestrated all event planning for program events. While an intern, she assisted with planning the 2010 International Symposium on Equine Reproduction. Harper was responsible for sponsorships for an equine event and increased sponsorship net profit by 300%. She was an integral part of Saddle Up Safely, an advisory committee comprised of UK equine specialist’s and medical doctors from UK Hospital. She spearheaded the development and management of the Saddle Up Safey app, which includes an injury and concussion assessment. Harper was instrumental in the management of the internship program at UK. She has also been the part-time instructor for the equine event planning course and the editor/designer of the Wildcat Canter, a monthly newsletter. She recently produced an impressive Saddlebred video that promoted the equine program’s undergraduate program, Saddlebred research at the Gluck Equine Research Center, and the UK Saddle Seat Team. She was part of the team that planned and coordinated the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 World Equestrian Games. 

A native of West Virginia, Harper started riding Saddlebreds at the age of six.  She has been dedicated to the American Saddlebred at every level; junior exhibitor, amateur exhibitor, and now an Amateur Owner Trainer. Harper also enjoys taking her Saddlebreds for breed promotion events to the public, 4H, elementary schools and hunter paces. Harper earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Kentucky in Corporate Communication, as well as a Master’s in Business Administration from Midway University.
