ASHA Alpha Class Grows at 2020 National Academy Championship

Last weekend brought over 1000 entries to Murfreesboro, TN, and hundreds of American Saddlebreds to compete at the National Academy Championship Horse Show (NACHS). ASHA was excited to see the ASHA Alpha Open English Pleasure WTC Classes grow this year to 14 great entries. The two classes offered this year are the ASHA Alpha Open English Pleasure WTC were for riders of all ages that were in their first two seasons out of the Academy division. This year instead of two age group riders had a chance to compete in a qualifier and a championship.  This year’s grand champion title was taken home by Amory Lomax!  Our grand champion received a commemorative leather halter from the ASHA, donated by Shelby Horse Supply, and a custom riding suit from Marsha de Arriaga. All 14 entries took home goody bags from the ASHA!

Reserve Grand Champion: Harrison Goode from Cash Lovell Stables

We thank Joyce Webster and the NACHS for allowing us to offer an opportunity like this to the competitors and supporters of their show. The ASHA sees great potential for the ASHA Alpha classes in our breed community. The ASHA looks forward to working with our regional affiliates to promote and offer these classes at more shows across the country.

This division is for riders that have either moved out of the Academy Division or are new riders entering show horse classes for the first time. These classes, unlike the novice or limit rider classes will give riders two show seasons to compete at an entry-level of competition. This will provide riders with more experience before moving up to stronger competition.   “We are very excited to debut these new classes which will act as a bridge between academy and performance competitions,” says David Mount, Executive Director of ASHA.

Thank you to Sandra Hall for her generosity of contributing all of our photos from the National Academy Championship Horse Show.
