ASHA Equine Welfare Advocacy Committee Makes Presentation for Champion Program Sport Horse Designation

At the 2020 UPHA National Conference, the ASHA Equine Welfare Advocacy Committee (EWAC) made a presentation to both the ASR and ASHA Board of Directors. This presentation sought to recognize champion sport horses with a permanent prefix of CH-SH (Sport Horse) on their registration. Both boards unanimously approved this new designation, which will be modeled on the 15 point scale of the current CH and CH-EQ designations.

The initial tracks by which a sport horse can earn their CH-SH designation will be dressage, endurance, and eventing. ASHA EWAC was tasked with assisting in the promotion of the versatility of the breed in the 2019 ASHA Strategic Plan and is very excited about this unanimous acceptance of the new designation, which will allow recognition of more outstanding Saddlebred athletes.
