ASHA Equine Welfare Committee
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: The Equine Welfare Committee (EWC) of the American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) is currently seeking new members for 2018. This is your chance to serve on an active committee at the national level. Our award-winning committee is tasked not only with assisting in seizure situations, but also with working cross-functionally with other committees, other organizations, and the ASHA Board, advising on the welfare of the breed. This year, we are seeking to add multiple perspectives to breed welfare through discipline diversity. We are especially interested in applicants who practice disciplines outside of the traditional American Saddlebred show world. However, all current ASHA members in good standing are welcome to apply. The Equine Welfare Committee has adopted a policy of rescue neutrality. While we solicit input from equine rescue organizations on an as-needed basis, we cannot accept applicants who currently serve on the board or are principals of such organizations. In general, committee members may expect to be tasked with projects and to meet via conference call on a monthly basis. We will be working this year on having an “in-person” working meeting, as well. To apply, please provide the following:
- your background, specifically as it relates to animal / breed welfare
your practiced disciplines and location
the reason you believe you would be a good choice
your contact information, including phone and e-mail
your ASHA membership number
a statement indicating you are not an active board member, nor a principal for an equine rescue organization
Please submit to Lisa Duncan at [email protected] before end of day on February 23rd. Please note that the ASHA bylaws state that all committee members are appointed by the President, so we will be providing the ASHA President with a list of candidates for the open spaces on our committee. If you have further questions, please contact Kathie Dunn Jacobsen (chair) at 949-422-5911.
