ASHA Thank You Letter to My Saddlebred: CH Winsdown Code Talker

Dear Jack,
I’m not even sure where to begin, but I guess I’ll go way back (even before our time together). When I was a seven-year-old little girl my dream was to own a pinto American Saddlebred. Even more specifically, to own a black and white pinto Saddlebred who I would call ‘Champion’. Fast forward several years later a wide-eyed, recently gelded pinto came to our barn for training. Every time I had a second, I would sneak over and give him a carrot and a quick pat on the nose and dream about what could be…it was safe to say I was obsessed. I am not even sure to this day how it happened, but you became a ‘Gallenberg’ shortly there after and my life was changed forever.

Jack Jack there are so many reasons to be thankful for you and I’m not even sure if I can put into words all of them, but I’m going to try because you are so worth it. Thank you for jumping over every mud puddle and jogging through every rainstorm, even though I know how much you hate both of them. Thank you for closing out my junior exhibitor career with that too many to count victory passes, even though outdoor rings can be really scary. Thank you for venturing into the world of amateur classes and being called ‘that cute pair’ more times than I can count, even when we were going more for bold and powerful. Thank you for being sweet to little children at the local county and state fairs, even when they tell their mommies, “oh look mom, there’s a cow!”. Thank you for learning the world of Western Pleasure, even though there is a bit too much glitter and sparkle for a guy like you. Just thank you.
You took a girl who had no self confidence and grew up with her. Soon it became Cameron and Jack, without any separation between the two and people just loved you. Your successes became her successes and vice versa. Your versatility has allowed so many others to see that Country Pleasure and Country Western Pleasure are legitimate and prestigious classes that can boast even the biggest of names. Your achievement of Champion status showcased the beauty of the breed in all divisions (In-hand, Park Pleasure, Show Pleasure, Country Pleasure, Country Western Pleasure, and Open Pairs with his brother Scotty). And finally ‘Jack in the Box’, you have pushed the box by being ‘that darn pinto’ who they didn’t really want to tie but had to because you are perfect (99% of the time).

For the past 9 years, I have had the privilege of being your human and at the end of every show season I think it cannot get any better than this, it just can’t. But year after year you prove me wrong (so wrong). I have been blessed to have many great horses in my life, but CH Winsdown Code Talker holds a place in my heart all to his own.
I would love to go back in time and visit my seven-year-old self and let her know that all her dreams come true. We own a breathtaking pinto American Saddlebred that is black and white (marked absolutely perfectly) and guess what…is a CHAMPION!
So, Jack thank you for bringing a light into my life that will never dim. Thank you for being as competitive as me. Thank you for trusting in me and always being brave. Thank you for being my little black and white spot who would do just about anything for a carrot!
