ASHBA Board Members Participated In USEF Summit

ASHBA Board Members Allen Bosworth and Chris Schubert participated in a two-day summit on December 2 and 3 in Cincinnati Ohio with the USEF National Breeds and Disciplines, as well as key members of the USEF management, staff, and Board. In addition to the ASHBA, there were representatives from the Morgan, Arabian, Hackney, Roadsters, Hunter/Jumper, Western Dressage, Andalusian, Lusitano, and others.
The purpose of the summit, as stated in the invitation, was as follows: “This gathering presents the opportunity for you to share your concerns, communicate your affiliate's needs, and learn about what opportunities exist for your affiliate and how you can take advantage of the resources and opportunities USEF can help facilitate for you.”

In advance of the summit, the ASHBA met with representatives from the other groups in the Joint Leadership Committee to formulate our questions and points of view. On those calls were representatives from the following Associations: UPHA, Morgan, Arabian, Hackney, Roadsters, Saddlebreds.

The agenda consisted of discussions of:

  1. Equestrian Social License Roundtable
  2. Challenges & Opportunities for Affiliates
  3. Digital & Linear Media - Opportunities for Affiliates
  4. Intellectual Property – What Affiliate Organizations Need to Know
  5. USEF Disciplinary Processes – How it Works
  6. Risk Management for Affiliate Organizations – Presentations from Aaron Lundberg, president of Praesidium and Steve Smith, Esq., attorney with Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, LLP.
  7. Value of USEF Affiliation – Interactive Roundtable that included a robust discussion around how to communicate better especially around rule making procedures and steps.
  8. We believe positive change, especially in understanding or policies and procedures, and communications will result from this summit. We plan to explore further ways that USEF can improve the overall experience for its members.
