ASR Diplomat of the Breed- Callaway’s Captain Bacardi

We are pleased to announce our next ASR Diplomat of the Breed sponsored by Freedman's is Callaway's Captain Bacardi (119740). He is a thirteen-year-old American Saddlebred gelding that fosters a love for the breed in his barn family and breed demonstrations in the Midwest. Our ASR Diplomat of the Breed will receive a custom halter from Freedman Harness to promote the impact he has on the American Saddlebred community. 

Callaway's Captain Bacardi, affectionately known as "Captain," came into Brandi Bushard's life as a two-year-old colt as a prospect that she had hoped would go on to be a nice horse to sell down the road. Over ten years later, Captain will call Bushard's Hanrahan Stables home for life. While his original intended purpose did not come to fruition, he has exceeded all expectations to become the go-to school horse. Captain has played an integral role in introducing the American Saddlebred and starting the show ring careers of many riders. His good nature and dependability have also made him the horse of choice to represent the American Saddlebred for several years at the massive Midwest Horse Fair. Over 50,000 visitors attend the fair on average every year, and Captain is there to educate people on the American Saddlebred, highlighting the breed's versatility and reliability with ears up! 

Captain is the Hanrahan Stables riding program's pillar, giving lessons and going to shows of all levels, from 4-H to the A circuit with his students. His can-do attitude and gentle nature make him a natural fit to teach young riders how to show and master the challenge of showing in many classes and disciplines. Captain has shown in everything from in-hand, academy, saddle seat, and western pleasure. Near and dear to Brushard's heart are his many performances showing in lead line with her son. 

Whether it is in the ring at a major exposition, taking someone for their first riding lesson, giving a young competitor the confidence to fall in love with the show ring, or displaying the inherent bravery of the American Saddlebred on the trail, Callaway's Captain Bacardi is helping ensure a positive for the future one hoof print at a time.
