From the Desk of Marty Schaffel: Back in the Saddle
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break. And I wish everyone a happy and healthy new year. 2020 has started, and we are back in the saddle again.
We are only a few weeks out from the National Conference. I believe we will have an excellent attendance this year. We have some great events and forums. Please make every effort to attend them. I think the information and experiences will be very valuable.
One of the things I teach in my leadership class at the University of Florida is that great organizations have a process for the succession of leaders. We have to create a better system in ASHA to prepare future leaders to take over from existing leaders. That is my goal over the next couple of weeks.
Up until now, we seem to have had to scramble to fill vacancies in officers. This makes for chaos and a lack of continuity. I genuinely believe ASHA would be better served if it had a system of progression of officers.
In the coming weeks, I hope to share some other goals and objectives that we need to accomplish. We have come a long way this year. I truly believe 2020 will be a year we can build on from our progress in 2019.
Marty Schaffel, ASHA Interim PresidentÂ
