From the Desk of Marty Schaffel: Confidently Returning
By now most of us have found their way to at least one horse show. I myself have been to two, Shelby County Fair and Kentucky Spring Premier. I am grateful to see everyone putting their best foot forward supporting our competitions. I am so glad we are able to be back in the show ring.
While the new guidelines upon entering the show are unlike years past, I have watched how you have gracefully allowed the news process not to detract from your experience. Thank you. It reminds me of the adjustments we all made after the 9/11 terrorist attack. Commercial air travel had a higher level of security protocol. Most of us grumbled about it, but we knew it was meant to keep everyone safer.
So are the *new* rules for horse shows. It’s different. Maybe more cumbersome. However, the virus has yet to go away. Its resurgence is evident in various states right now. We must be vigilant not to let this beast take us backwards. Let’s continue to keep our show rings open by tapping elbows instead of shaking hands. Virtual hugs verse those big warm ones we prefer. Keep wearing your face masks when not riding.
It brings me much joy to see the smiles on your face in pictures, which are evident even with masks on … we are STILL having fun. And that’s what we need right now.
- Our future and focus remain: To expand and build our market and breed.
Work to ensure those making a living from this industry are financially solvent and viable.
Most importantly, we are a welcoming and inclusive industry!
Best of luck at Junior League and beyond. I am proud of all members supporting the new efforts. Keep up the good work.
