From the Desk of Marty Schaffel: Making Progress
The month of February is here, and that means the show season is just around the corner. The beginning of the competition year is exciting for everyone, but 2020 will bare special significance as it marks the debut of the ASHA Star Show program and many other breed competition initiatives.
First, I want to applaud the Horse Show Task Force (HSTF), formed in August of last year in the course of a few short months they have developed a program that has the infrastructure to provide support in the most demanding areas of need for our horse shows. I also want to salute the collective effort of the ASHA and ASR leadership for bringing a much-needed update to the CH program for our horses and membership. The ASHA Board put forth the proposition to allow horses to earn CH points at ASHA Star Shows, and it gained support to be passed by the ASR Board. I am thrilled that we could come together to deliver on a long demanded adaptation to this program for ASHA members.
These recent advancements are a perfect example of what can be achieved when we work together. I am confident that the collaborative spirit between the ASHA and ASR leadership matched with the HSTF’s diverse group of show managers, secretaries, amateurs, professionals will allow us to continue to develop inclusive and innovative programs for our members and the industry.
I look forward to sharing the continued progress from the Boards, ASHA Star Show & Grant Programs, and more in the next couple of months!
