From the Desk of Marty Schaffel: The Role of the ASHA Board of Directors

We have an ASHA in-person board meeting just around the corner, and I felt this was the perfect time to visit what your volunteer leadership is doing for you! I look forward to convening with my fellow board members next week to mark our progress on the many initiatives we presented to our members at the 2019 convention and how we can keep the ASHA at full steam ahead towards completing the critical action items of our strategic plan.

We take our roles on the ASHA Board of Directors seriously, and have discussed the association’s mission and our role in it. While priorities might shift from time to time, we thought it would be helpful to share what we are focusing our efforts on right now. This includes:

Communicating. Until our membership complains we are communicating too much, our goal is to inform you about everything that is meaningful and important to you and our breed. Expanding our market. We must continue to find ways to broaden our market and create the best possible experiences for all of our members. Telling the story of our breed. There is no finer horse out there than the American Saddlebred. We have a great story, and we are intent on sharing that story with the world. Providing the highest level of scrutiny over every penny we spend and receive.  The board takes its fiduciary responsibility for your money very seriously.  Solving problems for our members.  We know we still have issues to address, and we will continue to work toward resolving these challenges for the benefit and safety of ALL of our members.

In the weeks and months to come, I will address each of these areas and keep you updated you with our progress.

Marty Schaffel, ASHA Interim President
