From the Desk of Marty Schaffel: The Times They Are a Changing
This is a catchy title to a great Bob Dylan song. Many of us, more chronologically challenged adults, probably remember this tune.
But I thought of it today when I started hearing great reports about the horse shows from this past week. And the Facebook posts were spectacular.
People looked happy. Classes were well populated. And life seemed to be going forward in our new normal.
All around us, things are rapidly changing. The coronavirus is subsiding in some areas and resurging in others. Symbols and statues are being re-evaluated. Policing is being reviewed around the country. Economically many people are in challenging places. Things are rapidly changing. Faster than I have seen in my 68 years.
But for those moments when people came together at various shows, the thrill was back. The smiles were beaming. And friends greeted friends with concern, love, and warmth.
Yes, things are rapidly changing all around us. But some things are still the same. And those moments are being cherished. And what a lovely sight that is.
