From the Desk of Marty Schaffel: We Will Be Back
“These are the times that try men’s soul.”-Thomas Paine, December 23, 1776
Few times in our nation’s history have we been more challenged as a country. And this enemy is not one we can see.
Today the stock market took a major leap higher with the news that we may be close to the apex of this curve. That provides us all with a glimmer of light at the end of this tunnel.
I hope we can start to envision how things will be when this is over. Certainly our lives and ways will have changed. How we greet people. How we run our businesses and horse shows. How we interact in public. How we manage large gatherings. Until we have a vaccine for this virus, we will always be on edge as a society.
Hopefully in the next two weeks we will have reached the apex of this pandemic. And find our way down the slope to the other side. This will happen. It just takes time.
Meanwhile we have government stimulus money to help people get through this. And a selfless group of people who are willing to guide people through the process of accessing these funds.
We have a Joint Leadership Committee fund and the Dewey Henderson fund to be a source of help of last resort for those in dire need. When all other resources are exhausted, this fund is available to help those who qualify.
We may not have as many horse shows as we wish. We may not be able to have functioning lesson programs right now. We are not selling much product or services these days. So many providers are suffering right now.
We will get through this. Our mettle will be tried and tested. Our resolve will be challenged. But as Thomas Paine said, our souls will be tried. And as our Revolutionary forefathers found during 1776, we will get through this and we did.
So let’s continue to seek out those flickers of light in the tunnel and watch them get brighter. We will be back.
