From the Desk of Terri Dolan / Executive Director of ASHA
While the ASHA supports the Safe Sport movement and its goal of protecting our youth from sexual abuse, our members have raised many important questions and concerns about the implementation and due process of Safe Sport. Is it necessary for our members who do not have contact or a position of power over youth to take the training? How are false accusations and the appeals process being handled? How will affiliates be audited and what are the potential penalties for non-compliance?
The leadership of the ASHA has reached out directly to the USEF to address these important questions and concerns. We have reached out to other breed and discipline organizations to gain a better understanding on how Safe Sport has impacted those organizations. As an additional measure we have sought outside counsel to get an independent opinion on what exactly the Safe Sport Act requires of our membership.
Our goal is to work to resolve these important issues and to communicate in a timely manner to our membership. We will be providing additional information and updates once they become available.
