Exciting Week of Youth Activities at World’s Championship Horse Show

It was a great week for our youth at the World's Championship Horse Show! They had the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities.

The week started off with a Junior Judging clinic on Saturday afternoon, hosted by Betsy Boone and Christy Parker. On Sunday, there was an ice cream social and junior exhibitors had the opportunity to see old friends and meet new. Junior Judging followed that evening where over 40 kids participated!

In the efforts to support and encourage the young people of the industry, the American Saddlebred Horse Association hosted its first College Night Monday evening. The idea for the event was born when Kaeli McCarty, currently a student at the University of Louisville reached out to ASHA about the possibility of inviting saddle seat teams from Kentucky universities to attend the horse show. ASHA Special Programs Manager, Alexandra Harper expanded upon the idea and coordinated the project. ASHA Youth were invited to attend, along with equine students from all the Kentucky universities and colleges. Attendees had the opportunity to hear from an impressive lineup of speakers, including Dr. Tom Riddle of Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, Amy Parker of McCauley's Equine Formulas, Dr. Martin Krarup Nielsen of the Maxwell H. Gluck Equine Research Center, Fred Sarver of Cornerstone Farm, and Alex Gravett of Kismet Farm LLC.

Thursday brought out our youth’s creative side with the Golf Cart Decorating contest. This year there were three themes including, horse theme, home barn theme, and horses name theme. Overall Grand Champion and winner for the home barn theme was Highland Ridge Stables of Wisconsin, Kennedy Martin from Pennsylvania took home the blue ribbon in the horses name category and Aley White of Tennessee was the winner for the horse theme.  

Friday morning started with another opportunity for our youth to Junior Judge before the final tabulation to select the winners. Friday evening the two winners from Junior Judging were selected and recognized in center ring. Abby Toth of Illinois won the 13 and under division and received a beautiful full bridle donated by Fennnell’s Horse Supplies. Sara Fouts of Louisville won the 14-20 age division and was awarded a portrait of Supreme Sultan, hand painted by Andrea Hartmeyer Johns.

To close out the week of youth activities, five youth were honored in center ring Friday night for their academic success, community service, and commitment to the Saddlebred Industry. Natasha Adams of California, Haley Krupnick of Florida, and Kennedy Wilson of Florida were awarded each a $5,000 scholarship from the American Saddlebred Horse Association. Cassidy Buchanan of Kentucky and Kaeli McCarty of Kentucky were each awarded a $5,000 scholarship in memory of John Biggins.
