Glenmore’s Parfait has been a part of Zubrod Stables since 2012 when she was 4-years-old. It’s always so great to see breeding programs recognize that horses can be useful and cherished for a lifetime, regardless of their initial “talent” or what some might feel is success in the show ring. The Glenmore Family has bred and raised countless champions, and when they raised her, they knew she was beautiful, but they also knew she would not likely make a top quality show mare in the future. They still put in the time with her to get some miles on her, and they called Cindy to see if we thought we would have any use for her as they felt she had a great mind and could be suited for a lesson program.

When we first got her she was still fairly early in her training, and while she was broke to ride, had more experience driving and hadn’t really been cantered at all. She went right into our lesson program, where we allowed our more advanced show riders to work with her, and teach her the ropes. They learned a lot about training a young horse, and she learned a lot too (sometimes some bad habits, but mostly good). Through lots of hours under saddle, she soon became one of our most cherished lesson horses.

Over the years, her role in our program has continued to evolve. From a young, spicy mare, who was the most challenging in our lesson program, to trusting her with our tiniest of riders (she’s still spicy, she just knows when to take care of her littles, and when to challenge her show riders).

Now, nearly 15 years later, she is carrying our 11-year-old rider with cerebral palsy to multiple blue ribbons in the UPHA Exceptional Program. Their journey Included a trip to Kansas City in 2024 for his national finals and his first time showing there unassisted (off lead). It was also Parfait’s first time going to a horse show more than just a couple hours away and as a “show horse”. She was in heaven with all the pampering, and expertly carried her precious cargo his first time around the arena by himself in Kansas City!! She is worth her weight in gold!!

She goes to all of our winter tournaments and academy shows and we are so grateful for her never quit and never slow down attitude!
