New Half Saddlebred Futurity Launches, Expanding Opportunities for Breeders, Owners, and Exhibitors

September 15, 2025 — The American Saddlebred community is proud to announce the creation of the Half Saddlebred Futurity, a groundbreaking new program designed to promote, reward, and expand the market for Half Saddlebreds. Inspired by the long-running success of the Arabian English Performance Association (AEPA) and Arabian Western Pleasure Association (AWPA), the futurity has set a goal to award $150,000 in annual prize money, making it one of the most lucrative programs in the show horse world.

The Half Saddlebred Futurity differs from other futurity models in that with a stallion’s annual nomination to the program, all of his resulting Half Saddlebred foals conceived that year are eligible to participate in the futurity. However, the foal resulting from a mare owner purchasing a breeding at the futurity auction, and the donated stallion owner’s own breeding, will be eligible for 25% in additional prize money in futurity classes.

 The futurity goal is to feature two cornerstone classes:

  • $50,000 Weanling Class
  • $100,000 Three-Year-Old Park Class

How It Works

  • Stallion Nominations: $1,000 per stallion per year; all foals conceived in the year of nomination are eligible.
  • Stallion Auction: Each nominated stallion donates one breeding, sold in a January/February online auction. Owners receive one eligible breeding for personal use or resale.
  • Patron Pledges: Supporters commit to three-year donations, building a reserve fund that guarantees futurity prize payouts.
  • Sponsorship & Naming Rights: Futurity classes will carry sponsor recognition, offering tax-deductible branding opportunities.
