Half Saddlebreds Shine at American Dutch Harness Horse Finals

The ASHA and ASR collaborated with the American Dutch Harness Horse Association (ADHHA) to recognize the highest placing Half-Saddlebreds at the 2020 American Dutch Harness Horse Finals held last week at the Kentucky Horse Park in conjunction with the Kentucky Fall Classic Horse Show. The Finals consisted of 24 classes and the highest placing Half Saddlebred in each of those classes received a commemorative ribbon from the Half-Saddlebred Registry and a complimentary ASHA membership.

It was exciting to see many of the Finals Champions exit the ring not only wearing the blanket of flowers, but the Half-Saddlebred Registry ribbon of honor on Saturday. This impressive group was headlined by 2020 Renovo Cup Harness Champion Whiskei Santana shown and trained by Steven Glick and owned by Team Bam Scam. In addition we saw Half Saddlebred winners in ADHAA Junior Harness Champion with T-Is Unlisted bred, owned and shown by Jonathan Fisher, ADHHA Park Horse Under Saddle Champion Star Song Jacinda bred and owned by Jonathan Fisher and ridden by Ella White, ADHHA Pleasure Driving Champion Abracadabra owned by Kari Lundin and trained and shown by Stan Bodnar, ADHHA Open Yearling Futurity Champion Hiro It’s Me bred, owned, and shown by Melissa More and Mary Sue Walker and several other nice finals winners.

The partnership is based off of a successful program launched last year with the Arabian Horse Association (AHA) at the U.S. National Arabian and Half-Arabian Horse Show. Top placing Half-Saddlebreds in the Half-Arabian championship classes were awarded a commemorative ribbon from the Half-Saddlebred Registry. Those efforts were well received from competitors at the show and among breeders from both breeds.

“This is a great collaborative effort to recognize and promote Half-Saddlebreds. I would like to thank the American Dutch Harness Horse Association for their willingness to help make this happen,” said Sandra Currier, ASR president.

The Half-Saddlebred Registry offers opportunities for recognition across a wide array of disciplines in conjunction with other equine organizations. In addition to the new recognition programs launched in partnership with ADHHA, AHA, and National Show Horse Registry, Saddlebreds and Half-Saddlebreds competed in the Distance Horse National Championship last year and earned breed specific awards. These programs join other longstanding awards programs that include USDF All-Breeds awards, as well as high point awards given out by ASR.
