Harlem’s Savoy - 2025 ASHBA Emerging Sport Horse of the Year Award Winner Highlight

December 14, 2025 - ASHBA is excited to congratulate owner, Jean Mutrux and her mount, Harlem’s Savoy on being the 2025 ASHBA Harvey jump HP(1).jpgEmerging Sport Horse of the Year Award Winner. American Saddlebred, Harlem’s Savoy is the third winner of this relatively new award that is helping incentivize and recognize riders and owners of emerging American Saddlebred sport horses.

Harlem's Savoy was purchased in 2024 as an unbroke 4 year old from Samantha Hegstrom. Jean shared, “She was great about sending videos of all three gaits so I could assess his potential as a sport horse. He went straight to my daughter, Abby, to start and after two weeks came home to me. I had intended to bring him along slowly for Eventing, but in a meeting with Melissa Moore she encouraged me to enter the new Sunrise Hunter Challenge class.”

The team packed up and about six weeks after his ride, they won their first class together and continued showing throughout the summer. Harvey finished the season as the Sunrise Hunter Challenge National Champion, the inaugural year of the Sunrise Junior Horse Hunter Challenge.

“With little time to make the transition, last spring we competed in his first rated Horse Trials at the Starter level and he earned a respectable ribbon. At the next event we moved up to Beginner Novice and a better ribbon. It's said that in order to do well in Eventing, one has to have a winning dressage score.  Harvey is catching on to that in that his last few scores have all been exceptionally good, resulting in blue ribbons, and reflect the qualities I saw in his first videos.”
