February 23, 2026: Lexington, KY – The American Saddlebred Horse & Breeders Association (ASHBA) proudly recognized Kim Backlund as the 2025 Volunteer of the Year, presented at the Saddlebred Celebrations Luncheon during the 2026 ASHBA Annual Convention.

The Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes an individual whose service reflects exceptional commitment, reliability, and meaningful impact across the Association. This honor is reserved for someone who not only contributes their time, but who consistently strengthens programs, supports initiatives, and helps ensure the organization’s work is carried out successfully.

Backlund was selected for her extraordinary level of involvement across multiple areas of the Association, including the Charter Club, Convention, Development, and Programs committees. In each of these roles, she does more than participate. She leads with intention, takes ownership of key initiatives, and follows work through to completion with consistency and care.

Known for stepping in wherever help is needed, Backlund brings focus, organization, and steady follow through to every responsibility she accepts. Her ability to manage multiple commitments while maintaining a high standard of excellence has made her a trusted and respected contributor whose efforts have directly supported the success of major programs and events.

“Kim represents what volunteer leadership truly looks like,” said Smith Lilly, Immediate Past President of ASHBA, who presented the award. “She shows up, takes initiative, and delivers results. Her dedication and work ethic have made a real and lasting difference across this Association.”

Her service reflects the spirit of volunteerism that drives the organization forward. Through her commitment, reliability, and willingness to lead, Backlund exemplifies the kind of engagement that strengthens the Association and supports the future of the American Saddlebred community.
