Mayor of Lexington Issues Official Proclamation Honoring ASHBA

February 13, 2026: Lexington, KY – The City of Lexington today announced that Mayor Linda Gorton has issued an official proclamation recognizing the American Saddlebred Horse & Breeders Association (ASHBA) for its significant contributions to the equine community and its ongoing impact on the people of Lexington and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The proclamation highlights ASHBA’s longstanding role in promoting the American Saddlebred, supporting equine education, and strengthening the cultural identity of the Horse Capital of the World. Frames(1).jpg

During the ASHBA Annual Convention at the historic Campbell House, Mayor Gorton’s proclamation was formally presented to members of the ASHBA Board of Directors and the broader association membership. The presentation underscored the organization’s leadership and dedication to preserving and advancing the American Saddlebred breed, as well as its commitment to fostering growth within Kentucky’s equine, agricultural, and cultural sectors. ASHBA’s work continues to elevate the visibility of the breed, support industry professionals, and contribute to the economic vitality of the region.

In recognition of these contributions, the proclamation officially designates February 12–14, 2026, as American Saddlebred Horse & Breeders Association Days in the City of Lexington, encouraging residents and visitors alike to celebrate the legacy, excellence, and enduring spirit of the American Saddlebred.

AMERICAN SADDLEBRED HORSE & BREEDERS ASSOCIATION DAY

WHEREAS, the American Saddlebred was developed in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and is a historic and distinguished breed; and

WHEREAS, the American Saddlebred is recognized worldwide for its versatility, athleticism, and elegance, and has played a prominent role in Kentucky’s equine, agricultural, and cultural heritage; and

WHEREAS, the American Saddlebred Horse & Breeders Association was founded in 1891 by General John Breckinridge Castleman, and is headquartered in Kentucky, serving as the national registry and steward of the American Saddlebred; and

WHEREAS, since its founding, the American Saddlebred Horse & Breeders Association has issued generation pedigrees in all 50 states, and numerous foreign countries, reflecting the breed’s national and international significance; and

WHEREAS, Kentucky’s American Saddlebred industry contributes to the Commonwealth’s economy through breeding operations, training facilities, competitions, tourism, and related equine businesses, creating jobs and supporting communities throughout the state; and

WHEREAS, February marks the 135th anniversary of the American Saddlebred Horse & Breeders Association, recognizing more than a century of leadership and dedication to preserving and advancing the American Saddlebred.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, LINDA GORTON, MAYOR OF LEXINGTON,  DO HEREBY DECLARE FEBRUARY 12–14, 2026,  AMERICAN SADDLEBRED HORSE & BREEDERS ASSOCIATION DAYS.
