Meet Our New ASR Diplomat of the Breed- Love Me A Latte

We are pleased to announce our next ASR Diplomat of the Breed sponsored by Freedman's is Love Me A Latte (138553). She is a seventeen-year-old American Saddlebred mare that has endeared herself to her community through her versatility, approachability and good nature. Our ASR Diplomat of the Breed will receive a custom halter from Freedman Harness to promote the impact she has hadon the American Saddlebred community.

Equestrians are drawn to all horses, but with every horse that comes into their life there will be those select few who are just special. Whether it be their partnership, abilities, connection, or all three; horse and person are drawn together. Ten years ago Debra Weisbecker was looking for a new horse to fill this special need. Debra considers it a great blessing that she found Love Me A Latte, lovingly known as Brandy. The mare has taken her through every competitive discipline and pleasure activity Debra ever asked of her and most importantly introduced her to the American Saddlebred.

Through her special partnership with Brandy, Debra has been able to pursue Fox Hunting, Endurance Riding, and showing in Hunt Seat, Show Pleasure and Open English Pleasure classes at our breed shows. Brandy is a personality-plus mare. She has also been used to help in giving lessons to young riders and start their competition careers in the Academy and lead line divisions.

Above all it is her kindness to others and to her human partner that have put her in the position to be a Diplomat of the Breed. Every activity she does with Debra is a new opportunity to continue to expose people to the American Saddlebred. Brandy not only demonstrates the breed’s versatility, athleticism, and trainability but also welcomes people in with her kindness. Debra remembers the pivotal moment she realized her horse was extraordinarily special to more than her.

“Our proudest moment came in the middle of 2019 when on a simple trail ride. We were waiting at a busy two lane road when a special needs gentleman on a bike recognized me. He stopped and asked if he could pet Brandy, but before I could give him the “Safety Speech” he grabbed her head and bear hugged her putting his chin between her ears” remembers Debra, “She just stood there and nuzzled into this stranger. We may never compete at the World’s Championship level or go to Tevis, but that day I realized I would never trade her for gold.”

The American Saddlebred Registry and program sponsor Freedman Harness are honored to recognize Love Me A Latte for her exceptional service in introducing so many to the breed we love as an ASR Diplomat of the Breed.
