Midwest Charity Horse Show 2026
June 17, 2026: Springfield, IL – The 2026 Midwest Charity Horse Show celebrated their 85th anniversary this year, a true testament to the rich American Saddlebred history in the Midwest. The American Saddlebred Horse and Breeders Association attended to support and host youth activities, and to connect with exhibitors and spectators.
Set at the Illinois State Fairgrounds from June 9th – 13th, the show saw deep competition with World’s Champions and young horses in the iconic coliseum. The Midwest Charity Horse Show once again proved why it remains one of the most beloved and iconic events in the American Saddlebred industry. Despite weather challenges throughout the week, exhibitors, trainers, owners, and spectators came together to create an unforgettable horse show filled with outstanding competition, camaraderie, and dedication to the sport.
In addition to the outstanding competition, ASHBA was proud to bring several youth focused activities to Midwest Charity, providing opportunities for young horse enthusiasts to learn, connect, and become more involved in the industry. Youth Council member and Missouri Representative, Emma Wycoff expertly assisted in facilitating both the Meet & Greets and Junior Judging. Emma’s passion for the breed shined at Midwest Charity, and she spreads that passion amongst her peers and fellow young riders.
ASHBA Youth hosted a lineup of Meet & Greets, giving young exhibitors and attendees the chance to make new connections and interact with fellow Saddlebred enthusiasts while meeting some famous show horses. The first stop was to visit RWGC Miss Meredith Grey with Jim Lowry at High Spirits Farm. The grey mare was incredibly sweet and loved the attention. Participants were able to hear about her show career and her accomplishments. The group’s second stop was to Sunrise Stables to meet Melissa Moore and WCC Super Shaq. Melissa let the group feed Shaq carrots and take pictures with him. It was a great look at the Roadster to Wagon division, and Melissa even brought out her wagon for the group to examine and learn more about! Our last stop was to see the exciting duo, WGC Kalarama’s Treasured Dream and Juliette Dell. The group was able to talk to Juliette and ask questions about Treasure and how their journey is going. Many photos were taken and it was fun for all, including Treasure, who loved seeing all the excited youth! Juliette and Treasure were also awarded for the second year in a row, as the 2026 Midwest Charity Horse Show Best In Show! They made history as the first horse to win this award twice. A big thank you to all the Meet & Greet hosts and participants, these gatherings continue to be a valuable way to strengthen connections among the next generation of horsemen and women.

The popular Junior Judging program also returned to Midwest Charity for the second year in a row, allowing youth participants to test and develop their judging skills while gaining a deeper understanding of equine evaluation. Junior Judging remains one of ASHBA's longest running and most impactful educational programs, helping young people sharpen their decision-making abilities and build confidence while learning in a real competition setting.
Despite the weather, Junior Judging had a great turn out! Guest judges Donna Pettry-Smith and Karen Homer-Brown helped provide insight on judging specifications and rules to support and educate the Junior Judges. The Junior Judges were recognized in center ring on Friday night with the ribbon placing participants receiving special tote bags and ribbons. The two age division winners Ryals Totterdale and Maddie Rowe were also able to judge a class from center ring Friday night as part of their winning prize.
It’s always a fun time with ASHBA Youth and we couldn’t do it without the help and support from the horse show management and team, the show volunteers along with the generous Junior Judging and Youth Activities sponsorship by Sally Jackson. The success of the youth activities reflected the enthusiasm and passion that youth continue to bring to the American Saddlebred industry. Their participation serves as a reminder that the future of the breed remains bright.

One of the week's most memorable moments came during a special Round of Honor recognizing Doug Shiflet's 25th and final year as the official photographer of the Midwest Charity Horse Show. For years, Doug has captured the excitement, emotion, and unforgettable moments that have defined the show. To celebrate his years of dedication, Doug was invited into the spotlight for a victory lap driving Oklahoma Smoke Show, receiving a well-deserved tribute from the Midwest Charity community. ASHBA joins countless exhibitors, owners, trainers, and families in thanking Doug for the thousands of memories he has preserved through his lens and for his lasting contributions to the show and the industry.
As another memorable Midwest Charity Horse Show ends, the show once again demonstrated the qualities that have made it a cornerstone of the Saddlebred community for generations—exceptional horses, dedicated horsemen, lifelong friendships, and a shared commitment to preserving and showcasing the American Saddlebred. Even with weather-related challenges, the show delivered a week of great competition and experiences.
