Saddlebred World Loses Janet Sterba

Longtime American Saddlebred owner and exhibitor Janet Sterba, 64, of Troy, Virginia, sadly lost her battle with cancer on March 29. A former Trustee of the American Saddlebred Museum, Sterba was well-known for her drives with the 2017 Amateur Fine Harness National Champion CH Caraway’s New York Minute, trained by Smith and Alexandra Lilly. In 2018, while bravely battling her illness, Sterba turned the lines over to Mercer Springs barnmate Grace Arnold who drove New York Minute to the World’s Champion of Champions Amateur Fine Harness honors.

Sterba also enjoyed great success with her pleasure horses, CH Callaway’s Born For This, CH Take It From The Top, CH My Stiletto and CH Shamanic Dream.

She is survived by her husband Jeff, son Dane and daughter Katy who this past season opened her own training operation, Famesgate Stables.
