Scripps Miramar Saddlebreds Shine Again in the 2020 Rose Parade

The Scripps Miramar Ranch of San Diego, California had their American Saddlebreds in perfect order and presented to the world for the 131st Rose Parade® presented by Honda. The owner of Scripps Miramar Ranch, Michele Macfarlane, is the incredible individual who makes this all possible. Macfarlane and her Scripps Miramar team dedicate an immense amount of time, effort, and resources to continue to present the beautiful American Saddlebred horse on this prestigious stage. This parade introduces the breed every year to millions of spectators along the parade route and televisions across the country via NBC, KTLA and affiliated channels including Hallmark Channel, RFD TV and Univision. This year was Macfarlane’s 36th time riding in the Rose Parade since 1962.

The team that made this year possible was the great group of riders Carson Kressley, Julie Robinson, Eric Antman, Melissa Moore, Michele Macfarlane, Don Trunk, Savannah Miller, Samantha Robinson, Kayce Reiner, Susie Robinson, and Theo Robinson.  Parade route assistants Wilber Amaya, Kent Moeller and Craig Clapp whom you could see walking the parade. Photography always done by the talented Debbie Keough. Behind the scenes assistance came from Kevin Michael, Gerry Rushton, Stacy Hennessey, Austin Eversman, Frank Miller, Jim and Lori Vantrease, Rachael Heliker, Kim Reiner, Cierra Holtz, Amanda White, Sarah Solon, Betsy Krutek, Bodhi Lawes, Paul Brisco and Wayne Willnauer.

We owe this group a major round of applause for the time and days they dedicate to prepare and present the horses for Rose Parade events. Preparations begin the night before the parade to assure the group is in top order for the 8 am parade start. This year ASHA Board member Helena Moreno was on hand and helped give us a Behind the Saddlebred Scenes perspective of the detail and dedication it took to make a Royal representation in this year’s parade. KTLA again interviewed Carson Kressley and Sea of Cortez on their pre-parade show, Backstage at the Parade.

The Scripps Miramar Saddlebreds also were presented to a great reception at the 2019 Equestfest at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. Thousands fill the stands to watch all the equine units of the Rose Parade be exhibited and be educated on each breed, discipline, and purpose of each group. After the show, hundreds of interested spectators came back to the Scripps Miramar Ranch stalls to learn more about the great American Saddlebred horse. RFD TV and the Cowboy Channel also televised this event.

The American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) is proud and immensely appreciative of the work each one of these individuals and horses contributed to make the 2020 Rose Parade another success. This year’s parade also featured a horse that was brought into the Scripps Miramar Ranch unit through the help of the ASHA Equine Welfare Advocacy Committee. Michele was delighted the committee members thought of her when they knew of a horse in need that could be a great fit for the team. ASHA also thanks Samantha Robinson, Julie Robinson, Austin Eversman for volunteering their time to help take over our Instagram story to bring live behind the scenes action from EquestFest to our followers!
