February 23, 2026: Lexington, KY – The American Saddlebred Horse & Breeders Association (ASHBA) proudly recognized Shelley Fisher as the 2025 recipient of the Lurline Roth Sportsmanship Award, presented by Rachel Seifert at the Major Awards Ceremony during the 2026 ASHBA Annual Convention.

The Lurline Roth Sportsmanship Award honors an individual whose character, integrity, and dedication to the American Saddlebred set a lasting example for the industry. Shelley Fisher’s career reflects a deep commitment to horsemanship, mentorship, and the well-being of the horse.

Beginning her journey in the sport at a young age, Fisher trained and rode her own horses as a junior exhibitor, developing a foundation rooted in hands-on experience and respect for tradition. In 1999, she became a professional and established Sugar Knoll Farm in Ohio, where she has since trained numerous world and national champions across a wide range of divisions, including Five-Gaited, Equitation, Pleasure, Western, and Driving.

Her leadership extends beyond the show ring. Fisher has supported the industry through involvement with UPHA Chapter 13, service on the USEF Saddle Seat Equitation Committee, judging, educational clinics, and mentorship of junior riders nationwide. A career highlight came in 2003, when three of her riders represented the United States on the Saddle Seat Invitational Team in South Africa.

“Shelley exemplifies the true meaning of sportsmanship,” said Smith Lilly, Immediate Past President of ASHBA. “Her dedication to teaching, integrity in training, and commitment to the horse continue to elevate our industry.”

Through decades of mentorship, competitive excellence, and service, Shelley Fisher stands as a deserving recipient of the Lurline Roth Sportsmanship Award.
