LEXINGTON, KY (March 6, 2024) – The American Saddlebred Horse and Breeders Association is grateful for its membership’s concerns and questions about recent changes announced by the Kentucky State Fair horse show management.

ASHBA intends to submit questions, and encourages members to continue to email our office at competitions@saddlebred.com with their concerns.

ASHBA has worked non-stop on this issue since KSF’s surprise announcement on Feb. 22. Here is what we’re doing:

  1. We are consulting with our attorney regarding our contracts with the United States Equestrian Federation and the Kentucky State Fair Board. We want to ensure we have a clear understanding of our legal obligations, and explore ways to work through any challenges.

  2. We continue to meet with our ASHBA board, KSF board leadership, USEF, and our partners at the American Hackney Horse Society, the American Road Horse and Pony Association, and the United Professional Horsemen’s Association to seek a unified resolution that serves all of our members. As previously announced, the Joint Leadership Council, comprised of members from these breed organizations and UPHA, has been reconvened.

ASHBA is eager to find a prompt and satisfactory resolution to this situation. We are deeply appreciative of the care and concern expressed by our members, and encourage ongoing communication with us, even as we repeat our commitment to keep membership informed of developments.
