Staff Spotlight: Lisa Duncan

Lisa Duncan with two of her cherished American Saddlebreds, Winslow & Bobby McGee

Lisa Duncan is the Registrar for the American Saddlebred Registry, Inc. Her role is to supervise the operations and affairs of the ASR and Half Saddlebred Registry of America. Lisa began working with ASR in 1987, stayed for 13 years and returned in 2012 as Registrar. Lisa has been a part of many Registry programs both as a staff member and a volunteer. She has been a Customer Representative for Registrations and Transfers, ASHA Board Member, ASR Board Member, ASR Vice President, and ASR President. Lisa administers ASR Programs such as First Time Breeders, Broodmare Hall of Fame, Faithful Friends, Breeders’ Award, and My Meadows. She is also the staff liaison for ASHA Equine Welfare Advocacy Committee. What Lisa likes best about serving as the ASR Registrar is, “I enjoy helping people and their horses. The outcome may not always be what someone is wanting, but I will work hard to help resolve issues within the parameters of our rules.”

Lisa's work at ASR is an extension of a lifelong love for the American Saddlebred. Lisa has been dedicated to the breed at all levels for most of her life being an owner, breeder, and exhibitor.  Lisa fell in love with American Saddlebreds at the Jr. League Horse show in 1974. Shortly after she purchased her first Saddlebred, a rescue, whose foal Lisa trained for 4-H and county fair shows.  Lisa continued her dedication to the breed working for John T. Jones in high school and training her horses at home to compete on the local county fair circuit. Alongside her Saddlebreds, she also helped her husband run a Thoroughbred broodmare and yearling sales prep operation. In recent years  Lisa has been blessed to have owned and shown some wonderful horses such as CH Chandler, CH She’s Gone Blonde, CH What Was I Thinking and CH Bravo Blue.  In addition to personally enjoying the breed, Lisa is heavily involved with sales and a previous longtime member of the Kentucky Spring Premier Horse Show Board.

Lisa is a lifelong resident of Lexington, KY, Kentucky Colonel and graduate of the University of Kentucky. Lisa and her husband Robert have two children, a son Trey and daughter Taylor. In addition to her love for the American Saddlebred, Lisa is an avid member of the Bluegrass Hemerocallis Society and competes with her prize-winning Daylilies.
