Thanks, Gratitude and Responsibility

Body It is World’s Championship Horse Show week and while the show looks much different than in years past because of the pandemic, how lucky are we to still be able to showcase our amazing breed on such a grand stage. We are especially fortunate, considering that other major equine events have been cancelled, including the USEF Pony Finals, USEA American Eventing Championships and American Quarter Horse Congress. The journey to this week was not an easy one, and we owe a debt of gratitude to all of the people who worked so hard behind the scenes to make the show happen in the safest way possible. From WCHS Manager Scarlett Mattson and her amazing staff, to Kentucky Venues CEO David Beck and his fantastic team, and to Hoppy Bennett, Tandy Patrick and David Williams, three American Saddlebred owners and exhibitors, who are also Kentucky State Fair Board members who fought hard for the show. The show looks a lot different for the ASHA too. Despite having staff work remotely for the most part this year, we are still able to support both the show and our members. We still have our app and we are doing live results for the evening sessions, along with providing other important information from the WCHS and Kentucky Venues. We still are able to honor the WCHS First Timers by giving out ribbons and WCHS goody bags, which are new this year.  We still are promoting our breed and the show through our social media channels, while making a conscious effort not to promote the show on local media to the general public. The ASR is still serving breeders with the new Win Big swag buckets for the owners of ASR Sweepstakes, ASR Futurity or Kentucky and National Three Year Old Futurity entries. And you will still see me and Jessica Cushing, our incredible Marketing and Communications manager, at the show all week. With this thanks and gratitude comes responsibility. The responsibility to make sure that you continue to follow all of the COVID-19 guidelines so that the show, which everyone has worked so hard for behind the scenes, continues without interruption. This means wearing masks at all times, and maintaining social distancing at all times. This includes photos that you may take back at the barn or in the stands that may end up on social media. We are so lucky that we get to have this show and others. Now it is up to all owners, exhibitors, trainers, grooms and family members who are privileged to attend, to wear masks and social distance, which will determine whether or not this show and others will go on. To everyone at Louisville this week … good luck, have fun and stay safe!
