VERSA Announces 2026 Scholarship Opportunities to Promote American Saddlebred Versatility
April 7, 2026: Lexington, KY –The American Saddlebred Versatility Association (VERSA) is proud to announce scholarship opportunities for the 2026 season, designed to support members seeking to expand their skills and knowledge beyond the traditional saddle seat discipline.
The VERSA Scholarship Program reflects the organization’s mission to promote and showcase the versatility of the American Saddlebred across a broad range of equestrian disciplines. These include, but are not limited to, dressage, eventing, show jumping, endurance riding, combined driving, ranch and trail riding, working equitation, western dressage, and other western disciplines.
VERSA is committed to supporting members who demonstrate a clear dedication to developing their horses and themselves in diverse disciplines, while actively promoting the adaptability and athleticism of the American Saddlebred.
Scholarship Details
Individual scholarships of $250 will be awarded to assist members in attending educational opportunities such as clinics, seminars, workshops and training programs.
Funds must be used for educational experiences with a clinician or instructor other than the applicant’s regular trainer. Scholarships may not be used for professional training rides, show fees, or related expenses such as travel, lodging, food, or horse transportation.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be current VERSA members in good standing (dues paid for the current program year prior to application)
- Complete the official scholarship application
- Submit at least one letter of recommendation from a qualified individual (trainer, clinician, or equine professional)
- Demonstrate commitment to showcasing the American Saddlebred in non-traditional disciplines
Applicants are encouraged to include photos and supporting materials that highlight their involvement in versatility-focused disciplines.

Late applications will not be accepted.
Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed by the VERSA Scholarship Committee, consisting of at least three members. Awards will be granted based on available funding and applicant qualifications, using standardized weighted scoring criteria to ensure fairness. Considerations include length of VERSA membership, level of competition, and achievements in disciplines outside of saddle seat.
Award and Requirements
Recipients will be notified by formal Letter of Award outlining the terms of scholarship use. Scholarship funds are distributed as reimbursement upon submission of a voucher for approved educational activities.
As a condition of the award, recipients are required to submit a written reflection or essay detailing their experience and the lessons learned. These submissions may be featured on VERSA platforms, including the website, newsletter, and social media, to further promote the mission of versatility within the breed.
