What Matters? Voting Matters.

To exercise the right to vote is taking advantage of the opportunity to have your voice heard. Every November, ASHA members have this powerful opportunity with the ASHA Board of Directors election. This is a time for Active ASHA Senior Competing and Life Members to make a three-year impact through the single action of voting.

The importance of voting is a message ingrained in anyone raised in a democratic society from childhood. Historically the right to vote has represented that options matter, representation matters and your voice matters. Yet we see elections of all kinds facing lower and lower voter turnout of constituents who want to show up and make their vote matter.  

This year we have nine candidates who have many differences, from their geographical location, role in the industry, generational knowledge to their American Saddlebred interests. But the shared common denominator is their passion and dedication to a breed and community that matters to them. They are volunteering their time, resources and knowledge to serve their fellow members and the American Saddlebred horse. These candidates may usually be someone you face in the ring, see at shows from time to time, or casually follow on social media, but this month, they are the group of individuals you have the chance to use your voice to decide who represents you and the American Saddlebred.

So why does voting matter? It matters because any entity that works to represent interests larger than themselves does its best work when the elected leadership at the table has the confidence that they are the people that the people want. It matters like having ten horses in a class versus one. It matters because the ASHA wants to be an organization that matters to you.

If voting and the future of the ASHA matters to you, get out and vote. ASHA Board of Directors election is open until November 30. Eligible 2019 ASHA members can vote online or via the paper ballots sent to you. Paper ballots must be postmarked by November 30 to be counted.
