The Zubrod Family Receives The Paul and Dorothy Gillenwater Family Award

February 23, 2026: Lexington, KY – The American Saddlebred Horse & Breeders Association (ASHBA) proudly recognized the Zubrod Family as the 2025 recipients of the Paul and Dorothy Gillenwater Family Award, presented by Rachel Seifert at the Major Awards Ceremony during the 2026 ASHBA Annual Convention.
The Paul and Dorothy Gillenwater Family Award honors families whose multi-generational contributions have made a lasting impact on the American Saddlebred industry. The Zubrod Family’s legacy reflects decades of dedication, leadership, and commitment to developing both horses and riders.
The family’s influence began with Bonnie Zubrod, who founded Zubrod Stables in 1967 and trained generations of riders while remaining actively involved in the industry for decades. Her daughter, Cindy, continued the tradition, training world and national champion horses and riders, earning more than 30 world’s championships and 40 national titles, and serving in leadership roles including the USEF Saddle Seat Equitation Committee.
Today, the next generations carry the legacy forward. Deveau and Renee, alongside Cindy, operate Zubrod Stables, teaching over 100 lessons weekly and training clients at the local and national levels. A fifth generation is already emerging, reflecting the enduring passion that defines the family’s commitment to the breed.
“The Zubrod Family represents the kind of generational dedication that strengthens our industry,” said Smith Lilly, Immediate Past President of ASHBA. “Their influence can be seen not only in championships, but in the countless riders and families they have inspired.”
Through decades of leadership, mentorship, and competitive excellence, the Zubrod Family stands as a deserving recipient of the Paul and Dorothy Gillenwater Family Award.
