ASHBA Goes West Coast: Celebrating the Spirit of the Saddlebred in Scottsdale

May 11, 2026: Lexington, KY – The American Saddlebred Horse & Breeders Association (ASHBA) took its passion for the breed to the desert this spring, traveling to Scottsdale, Arizona for the vibrant Carousel Horse Show, held March 26–29. The trip marked a meaningful moment in ASHBA’s continued effort to connect with Saddlebred communities nationwide, and the West Coast welcomed us with open arms.
From the moment the show began, the energy was unmistakable. The Carousel Horse Show delivered incredible American Saddlebreds and talented riders, each bringing their own flair to the ring. The atmosphere was equally competitive and celebratory, highlighting the versatility and heart of the breed.
Throughout the week, ASHBA staff had the privilege of speaking with over thirty individuals, each sharing their unique Saddlebred stories, personal journeys, and the reasons they fell in love with the breed. These conversations were heartfelt, inspiring, and a powerful reminder of the community that makes the Saddlebred world so special.
We also engaged in thoughtful discussions with members about strengthening ASHBA programming and expanding opportunities for everyone involved from newcomers to seasoned exhibitors.
One of the standout moments of the week was our Junior Judging event, expertly hosted by Cindy Kelledy. The turnout exceeded expectations, with enthusiastic youth eager to learn, observe, and participate. We had ten Junior Judging Participants with results below:
13 and Under Results:
- Tie for Champion: Olivia Jung and Avarie Ancho
- Tie for Reserve Champion: Lily Rose Saine and Xavier Yerkie
- 3rd Place: Evie Jung
- 4th Place: Ella Robinson
- Tie for 5th Place: Sofia Rodriguez Vialesik and Isabella Ramirez
- 6th Place: Mishele Rodriguez Vialesik and Harper Robinson
Junior Judging offers young Saddlebred fans a rare chance to get up close to the judging process, gaining firsthand insight into what judges look for in the ring. It is an empowering experience that builds confidence, sharpens horsemanship knowledge, and strengthens the next generation of Saddlebred leaders.
ASHBA’s time in Scottsdale was more than a visit; it was a celebration of connection, education, and the shared love of the American Saddlebred. From heartfelt conversations to youth engagement, the Carousel Horse Show highlighted the strength and passion of our West Coast community.
